BESTIAIRE

Designed by Sébastien Léon

In French, the word “Bestiaire” is traditionally used to evoke the representation of a group of animals, which for Leon is comprised of a collection of insects. “Since I moved to the Hollywood Hills three years ago, I have been drawing most of my inspiration from the surrounding nature. I have been able to closely observe the flora and fauna through each season, and have been particularly drawn by the anatomy of insects: the texture of their shells, the shape of their antennas, the articulation of their legs, etc. Nature really is a limitless source of awe and inspiration.”

LAISSE BÉTON

Designed by Sébastien Léon & Valérie Pasquiou

Laisse Béton, the inaugural Atelier d'Amis collection, was designed by French New Yorkers Sébastien Léon and Valérie Pasquiou after observing the never-ending turmoil of New York City's streets, constantly torn apart by constructions sites. "There is a certain beauty and unity in the architectural skeleton of construction," observes Sebastien Leon " which offers a stacked X-ray of structural elements, floor after floor." For Valerie Pasquiou, "concrete is the raw material of New York by excellence, which I felt should be glorified by bringing it to the world of fine furniture".

The design duo chose to reinterpret rebars into legs, grids into tables, pinion elevators into armoires and cleverly infused the vocabulary of construction throughout their collection. Sébastien also brought his tubing language from his sculptural work - in particular his sound sculptures - which naturally meshed with the pieces. Material-wise, Atelier d'Amis selected ultra-thin and resistant concrete-finish ceramic plates with brass plated tubular steel, marrying the worlds of industrial, contemporary and high-end furniture.

PIPELINE

Designed by Sébastien Léon

"I have always found an infinite beauty in the the brass sections of symphonic orchestras: French horns, trumpets, and tubas strike me first as sculptures, and then as instruments," says Sébastien Léon, the designer of the Pipeline collection, whose other forms of artistic expression include sound sculptures and polyphonic installations. "I have often used brass pipes in my sculptures as a way to carry sound and was captivated by the idea of drawing on this same aesthetic to form a furniture collection." A longtime practitioner of meditation, Sebastien Leon also used the art of zen rock stacks to create the geometry of his sofas, perpetually searching for balance between all elements.

The Pipeline Collection is composed of variety of individual elements allowing for multiple configurations. Pipes are made of brass. Cushions are available in a selected palette of Novabuck® and leather colors.
